Borad of Studies Discussion 2009

MA Education - Board of Studies
Annual Report 2008-9
1. Annual Review
The year saw the programme reviewed and developed and has led to changes including:
New Award Titles
•    MA Education (Early Years),
•    MA Education (Leadership. Management and change)
•    MA Education (Subject Specialism)
New Module Titles
Extended time period to 6 years
Open programme to non-QTS
Module Grades will be pass/fail (except dissertation)

2. Recruitment
During eh course of the year recruitment rose to 361 participants on PPD programmes of which 317 are on MA education. Over 60 people have been recruited to a new school based programme. Entry is at September, January and May.

3. Curriculum development
The programme has added a module for coaching. The development of MA inclusive Education has meant further optional modules for SEN, SPLD, Gifted Education, Behaviour and Bilingual learners are on offer.

The 2009-10-programme information seeks to clarify pathways for Early Years subject pathways and for NQTs. The latter group may choose from various partners offering modules. Subject specialist groups exist where we can create them. Currently they are for
•    Design and Technology
•    Global Dimension to the Curriculum
•    Physical education and Games
•    Primary MFL
•    Foundation Stage

Further development of formative feedback has taken place across several modules following he development work done in Haringey last year.Ethical considerations have been tightened by the requirement to submit an ethical statement by each candidate.

4. School based programmes
The year saw new school based programmes led by additional Middlesex staff in ten new schools.

5. Quality assurance and management
Coherence and consistency across the wide and varied programme continues to be offered by
a. Printed guidance materials for module leaders and participants.
b The online learning community
c. The Core programme sessions.
d. Intermittent programme updates sent to all participants.

The quality of the programme has been assured by
•    Regular meetings with module leaders and partners.
•    Observation of sessions
•    Evaluation feedback from participants.
•    Review of modules by module leaders.

6. Administration
Owing to the efforts of Joanna Sifonios and Chris Llewellyn the administration and student record system has been tidied up. This has led to a dramatic drop in problems associated with enrolment, registration, and finance. Some problems are still caused by offices beyond the programme.

Have you feedback on the programme you wish to record?

How well does the programme meet needs?

How far does it impact upon practice and standards?

How might we improve?
